Ban on glass-coated kite strings

A ban has been imposed against flying kites made of nylon twines and strings coated with glass powder in Brazil. But people are still using it. After some bikers^ throats got slashed, they come up with this idea to save bikers~ lives.

In fact, it is a serious problem. When kids fly kites near big roads, the lines sometimes end up hanging over the road, posing a deadly risk for passing motorcyclists. (To see some pictures of what the kite line can do, click here. WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC PHOTOS)

Two years ago on a highway, our car got caught of a glass kite line.
The front from left to right was scratched even the paint came off.

Another Four Years

Today is a big day for Brazilians. Like in most other countries, after listening to promises every 4 years, they will cast their final votes to confirm giving up their power to a lesser evil - President.

In Brazil, voting is mandatory. One can vote VOID meaning give up the vote. Or vote for NO ONE. If miss voting, fine is R$2.00.Overseas Brazilians can vote at the embassy. They call it duty of a citizen.

In Canada, it is a right either to vote or not to vote. I never vote.

Rodovia dos Imigrantes to beaches

Like California, Brazil suffers its worst drought since 1933.

During the second week of Oct temperature reached over
40 degree C. We have to hide in air conditioned places.

Last weekend we receive rain for two days. It cools off quite a bit.

We filled up the car with ethanol.

This Ford Fiesta equipped with Blue Tooth, USB port, Air, Electric front windows, remote entry, five speed gear shift.

Designated driver in Brazil

Rodovia dos Imigrantes meaning "immigrants' highway" in Portuguese (official designation SP‑160) is a highway in the state of São PauloBrazil. The highway connects the city of São Paulo to the Atlantic coast and with the seaside cities of Santos and Praia Grande. It follows the route of Rodovia Anchieta and is also one of Brazil's busiest highways, especially on weekends. During sunny weekends, more than 1 million automobiles commonly cross its near 60 km run, separating the city of São Paulo from the sea.

Highway Imigrantes has 44 viaducts, 7 bridges, and 11 tunnels, along its 58.5 km stretch.

The highway has recently been expanded, in one of the most audacious feats of Brazilian highway engineering, with extremely long tunnels and high strutting
six-lane bridges constructed over the tropical rain forest which covers the steep faces of the Serra do Mar, the cliff range that separates the São Paulo plateau
from the seaside lowlands.

It is managed by a state concession to the private company, Ecovias, which also maintains Rodovia Anchieta;
it is, therefore, a toll road.

Have to change highway to different beaches.

Arriving our destination, Itanhaém

It is still Spring.

The beach is deserted

Actually we drove three hours to talk to contractors and suppliers about some renovation work. Afterwards, we drove home.
